One Thousand Years

god is patient

But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8 What does this verse mean? It means that God is so patient that he has unlimited longsuffering for His children. Think about how in the Old Testament how Israel rebelled against God. He was so patient with them He kept warning them to come back to Him. He warned them time and time again through His prophets to turn from their sin. He would have mercy on them if they would turn back from their sins. He was so patient with them and He is so patient with us.

Look at these verses in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.  Love never fails.

The  love verses describe God’s nature and every single verse in the above verses refer back to patience and how patient God is with all of us. 2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

Another key verse about the longsuffering of God that He has waited for thousands of years for mankind to come into relationship with Him then He sent Jesus. Jesus was the final and key ingredient in God’s  redemptive plan for man.

Jesus died two thousand years ago and God has waited patiently for all of us to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. He has waited for centuries to send Jesus back to gather us up and take us to heaven. Some think God is slow in keeping His promise to send Jesus back but this isn’t the case.

He is being merciful to us so that none of us will perish and that all will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. His patient knows no bounds and has no limit and this is a great comfort to know that God is so patient with us.

Gods patient knows no bounds

Some think God is a hothead who is short on patience and He will punish us if we don’t do what is right in His sight. But the opposite is true. He is so merciful and full of grace that He will forgive our sins in Christ time and time again.

He does have His limits but to push God to the limit would take a lot of pushing. Pushing that is beyond human understanding. Remember that one day is as 1000 years with the Lord. How patient He really is toward us.
