They that were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them Matthew 25:3 We cannot be like the five foolish virgins who were caught off guard and were unprepared when the bridegroom came to get them. Our hearts should always be ready for that glorious day when Jesus comes back.
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom? And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not. Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. Matthew 25:1-13
This passage teaches us some critical lessons about being ready and prepared for the wedding feast of the lamb. Or the second coming of Christ. Jesus compares the story of the ten virgins to the Kingdom of God. There were five wise virgins and five foolish virgins.
The wise virgins came prepared and remained prepared so when the bridegroom came they would be ready to attend the wedding feast with the bridegroom. They had oil in their lamps and they had extra oil in case the bridegroom delayed arriving to take them to the wedding feast. He came and they were ready to go into the marriage feast of the lamb.
The five foolish virgins brought enough oil to keep their lamps full and lit but they didn’t bring extra oil in case the groom delayed coming to get them. They ran out and asked the five wise virgins to give them some oil. They told them to go and buy extra oil so they did.
While they were gone the bridegroom came and took the five wise virgins into the wedding feast. The five foolish virgins came back but the door to the wedding feast was closed. They knocked on the door and said let us in. The bridegroom said I don’t know you and you will not attend the wedding feast because you weren’t prepared.
Point of the story is that Christians should be prepared for the second coming of Christ so they will be caught up with him when He comes.
