Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Matthew 8:23 Notice He got into the boat ahead of the disciples and they followed Him. He was ahead of them because He is always leading them. Just as He always leads us. He has gone before us all of our lives. If we study the gospels we will see that Jesus was always calling His disciples to follow Him.
He was the One who was leading the groups and whenever he spoke to crowds He was always in the front. He knew what He wanted to say to them and He always knew where He was going and where He wanted to take His disciples.
Today, He has not changed because he still leads His children through the Holy Spirit that dwells in each believer who truly believes in Him. He told His disciples time and time again to follow Him. He’s telling His disciples the same thing today. The bible reminds us “The steps of a good man are ]ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.” Psalm 37:23 It says steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. The good man allows God to order His steps so God directs him where the Lord wants Him to go.
A good man’s steps are ordered by the Lord because the subject is allowing God to lead him. God knows where He is taking us and He will always go before us. He leads and we follow and He is the Good Shepherd that leads us to the still waters and green pastures.
Psalm:23: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the ]still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will [d]dwell in the house of the Lord ]Forever.
The psalm starts saying that Jesus is our Shepherd and we shall not want. How can we not want? By following the Shepherd of our souls. The Shepherd who leads us besides still waters and green pastures.
It means that God leads us in peace and into abundant life. He even prepares a table in the presence of our enemies. God knows how to lead us into abundant life. He leads us in the valley of the shadow of death or He is leading us when we are walking in troubled waters. He is always ahead of us because we are supposed to follow us. He knows what is ahead and he knows how to lead us through any circumstance in life.
