The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.-Psalm: 23
It doesn’t matter what version the psalm is written in, it is an inspired psalm of God. God Almighty is our Shepherd and He cares for each of His little ones if they let Him. He is the great shepherd and Jesus said He was the good shepherd. Listen to what He said in John 10:11-18 “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep. “I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have the authority to lay it down and the authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”
Jesus is our Good Shepherd and like any good shepherd, He said He lays down His life for the sheep. And he literally kept that word because He laid down His life for man on Calvary. He restores the soul of His children and all those across the earth who come to Him with a right heart.
Jesus leads us in paths of righteousness because He is righteousness itself because all he does and says is in righteousness. Knowing that when we are in hard times Jesus is there comforting us with His rod and staff. He walked through the hardest time any man could ever walk when He died on the tree.
Jesus said He is the good shepherd and that He knows whose are his and they know His voice because they follow Him. The Lord is our only Sheperd.
